First Peoples.
Background.
At Zebra Moon I believe it is important to discover the stories of the first inhabitants of the Overberg. The stories of the San and Khoi people have much to teach and inspire us. These First People were living in harmony and balance with their environment, they were masters of sustainable living. Their cultures are also rich in wisdom and knowledge, much of this wisdom is not easily available today. I would like to start this journey of discovery and share the information I find. As our Society, economy and environment head seemingly towards a crisis, I believe the First Peoples will provide us with many of the clues we need to navigate the future with hope.
There is a more recent and sad story that I believe needs to be more openly acknowledged: this is the story of the impact of the Group Areas Act on the people of Greyton. It was a gradual and insiduous story that unfolded slowly, but was nevertheless a heartless story. Many of the wounds inflicted by this Act have not yet healed, and visitors to Greyton see an idyllic, peaceful place.
